Everything you need to know about using Beacon.
Tab Search
One shortcut and you're in. Hit Cmd+. (Ctrl+. on Windows/Linux) to open the overlay, start typing, and your tabs filter live across every open window. Tabs are tagged by window (W1, W2, ...) so look-alike pages are always easy to tell apart.
Bookmarks & History
No need to hunt down the bookmarks manager or history page. Type /book to search your saved bookmarks, or /hist to dig through your browsing history. Same overlay, same keyboard, no detours. Press Backspace at any time to step back out of a command.
Draggable Overlay & Tab Close
If the overlay is in the way, grab the header and move it anywhere on the page. You can also close tabs without ever switching to them. Hover over any result and a close button appears right there.
Close Tabs Without Leaving the Keyboard
Arrow to any tab and press Cmd+Backspace (Ctrl+Backspace on Windows/Linux) to close it on the spot, without ever reaching for the mouse. The overlay stays open so you can keep clearing out tabs in a row. It only fires in the tab list, so your bookmark and history searches are never affected.

Got a bug to report or a feature in mind? Type /feedback in the overlay to jump straight to the feedback form on the Beacon site, or use the form there directly. It lands in my inbox, and I read every message.
Private by Design
Beacon never stores or transmits any of your data. Everything runs locally inside your browser. Tab, bookmark, and history information is only pulled in the moment you open the overlay. Nothing is logged, synced, or sent anywhere.
⚠Limitations
Browsers block extensions from injecting into certain protected pages, so Beacon can't open on:
- Browser settings pages (chrome://settings, about:preferences)
- The new tab / empty new tab page
- The extensions or add-ons manager (chrome://extensions, about:addons)
- The Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons pages
This is a browser security restriction, not a Beacon bug, there's no workaround for now.
